The Summer Blazer vs. The Fall Blazer

In the past few years, it seems as if women have adopted a more masculine style, wearing everything from oxford shoes to the fitted blazer. This menswear-inspired look has been around for ages (think Coco Chanel or Diane Keaton back in the day), however women of all ages are finally dipping their toes into this trend. I purchased my first blazer several years ago and it has become one of the most versatile pieces in my closet; I’ve worn it over tights, with “skinnies” (skinny jeans), high-waisted shorts and skirts, and even the occasional dress. But, as the school year came to a close and the sun beat down on my skin, I realized my black blazer had to be tucked away until next fall. Summer is the time to play with softer or brighter colors, not harsh black. Now, with two very different blazers, I can enjoy the trend any time of the year.

This is my “Spring/Summer” version of a look revolving around the blazer. The white, eyelet blazer practically screams summertime! I paired it with a pink tank for a pop of color, added my favorite dark wash skinnies, and finished the look off with some ochre brown gladiator heels; I kept the accessories minimal with a leather Valentino bag and a simple, gold necklace.

Just think how lovely this blazer would look paired with a minty green tank! A pretty, lacy bra peeking out also adds an subtle element of surprise; I once added a Betsey Johnson bra for a sweet yet sexy touch. I've also paired the blazer with ballet flats, sandals, Toms, and even espadrilles. I also just realized the majority of the pieces in this look are from Banana Republic. Three cheers for Banana Republic, I guess!

Here is my “Fall/Winter” version of the blazer look. And yes, of course I had to pose in this manor; I feel like I'm the head of a fashion magazine. I dressed up my black blazer with a cream-colored blouse and those same dark wash skinnies; I balanced the look off with some black flats, a slouchy handbag, and an oversized cocktail ring.

Blazer, Gap; blouse w/ bows, Forever 21; skinny jeans, Banana Republic; sling back flats, Miss Sixty; handbag, Sabina; ring, Forever 21; nail polish, OPI Aphrodite's Pink Nightie

I would wear this look to a job interview or to work in a heartbeat. It's polished, sophisticated, and chic. I could also wear this ensemble to a semi-dressy dinner; I might switch out the flats for a nice peep-toe pump and add a long necklace or several bangles. To add some color to the look, I could even swap out the ring for a brighter one, like a hot pink. And, I'd also trade the slouchy handbag in for a nice clutch.
